The arbitrary nature of street art challenges the status quo, proving its ability to also create dialogue. If you’re an aspiring or professional street artist looking to make an impression, take part in the Make Your Mark in Melbourne street art competition co-organised by UEM Sunrise, Visit Victoria and Publika Shopping Gallery.

This year, participants are allowed to submit their original artwork in digital format depicting any one or more of the following themes about Melbourne: food and drink, architecture, arts and culture, events and nature. Ten shortlisted finalists will have the opportunity to showcase their artistic talent live at Publika. Their works will be scored by a panel of judges, and voted by the public.

The grand prize winner will get his/her very own wall at the regional Victoria’s Wall to Wall Benalla 2019, the only street art festival of its kind in Australia, and RM15,000 cash prize. Plus, winners will also stand a chance to display their works at UEM Sunrise developments in Melbourne.

Last year, Leonard Siaw became the first Malaysian street artist to earn a spot at the Wall to Wall Benalla. He also rubbed shoulders with a host of renowned local and international street artists such as George Rose, Justine McAllister, Lolo Ys, Tim Bowtell, as he painted a one-storey building.

“This has been such a fruitful trip for me – it has enriched and widened my point of view of world-class street art culture. It’s been amazing to be able to meet so many local and international artists where we shared our knowledge freely. Benalla and Melbourne is such a lovely and creative place,” Siaw said, upon completing his work entitled Fishing Fun.
