South Australian winery Penfolds unveiled its 2018 collection in Thailand recently — a series of wines that is testament to its distinctive and recognisable house style, which is the ultimate expression of Penfolds’ time-honoured tradition of sourcing the best fruit from the best regions. Each wine in this release adds another chapter to Penfolds’ long lineage. With careful cellaring, these wines will gradually evolve and reward patience.

While Grange leads the charge, each wine in the collection has its own individual style, the continuity of which takes precedence over region, vineyard and origin, even the portions of varietal blends. There is no better representation than the 2016 Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz. Notwithstanding the character of each vintage, Bin 389 continues to uphold its universal appeal and reliable reputation.

The white wines continue to evolve year on year. Reserve Bin A, first released as a trial wine during the comprehensive and focused Yattarna development project, has gone on to develop its own personality and style — one that cannot be mistaken. This year’s release is a benchmark for the style, one that is wonderfully complex yet linear and focused. In 2017, the fruit sourcing moved to multi-regional cool-climate regions; the Adelaide Hills in South Australia, Tasmania and Tumbarumba, New South Wales.

The Penfolds Collection 2018 is available at select fine wine stores in Malaysia. Watch the video below to find out more:
