The award-winning beers
While beer has enjoyed a millennia-long history as the people’s drink, it was not until the late 1990s and early 2000s that it came to symbolise something more than unfussy intoxication. Craft beer, with its small batches and unique flavours, has become an increasingly common sight on pub taps and supermarket shelves. But between the more complex profiles and uppity price tags, naysayers scoffed at the idea that artisanal brews could find their place in the frosty mugs of the Malaysian imbiber.
That is, until PaperKite Beer set out to defy this exact presumption in 2022. For the past three years, the local beermaker has been letting the market know it means business by claiming consecutive wins at the prestigious World Beer Awards — its most recent 2025 gold medal, bestowed upon the Copper Ale, marks the company’s third top medal since its opening.
The English-style amber champion, defined by its bitter, caramel-like notes, was also the brewery’s first gold back in 2023, while the Oatmeal Stout earned the honour in 2024. These and PaperKite’s other signature creations — including the Pale Ale, IPA and Hoppy Lager — have clinched a total of six silvers and one bronze across the years.

“PaperKite has always been about more than just brewing; it’s about crafting stories and experiences that reflect local pride with global standards,” remarks founder Alvin Lim.
In celebration of this milestone, the brewery has unveiled a collaboration with Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, a partnership intended to represent Malaysian pride, warmth and hospitality. Until Oct 21, visitors can enjoy a curated craft beer and chocolate pairing experience at Cacao Mixology & Chocolate, designed to spotlight the artisanship and thoughtfulness behind both creations by focusing on the harmony of aromas, flavours and textures.
“At Park Hyatt KL, we believe in creating authentic experiences for our guests, allowing them to enjoy the best of every moment. Partnering with PaperKite lets us celebrate local talent and creativity by giving our guests a taste of a truly world-class local craft beer,” shares general manager Herman Kemp.
