In the interplay between the old and the new, architecture becomes the visible manifestation of a city’s soul, shaping not only the skyline but also the way its inhabitants live. With that in mind, Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival (KLAF) will be a hosting an exhibition called Vibes KL: Vibrancy and Diversity from Sept 28 until Nov 30 at Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia (PAM) Centre.
Just as how buildings are varied and disorderly in downtown KL, each person also has their own story to tell. Local architects, artists, photographers, illustrators and industry leaders from different disciplines will be sharing their perspectives through various art forms in this creative medley. Look out for Firadaus Khazis’ The Capsule, inspired by his daughter’s interaction with curtains that double as fun hideouts, or delve into the story of Shan Shan Lim, a textile designer specialising in weaving, who grew up in Malaysia and studied at the Himalayas in India. Get to know LiLeng Wong’s ceramic works too, whose latest pieces were produced from her artist residency held at Bon Ton, Langkawi.
Not to be missed is Dr Jalaini Abu Hassan (‘Jai’ for short)’s live painting performance on the festival’s launching day, which also coincides with World Architecture Day 2024, at 2.30pm. A process painter, the contemporary artist often experiments with materials and mediums, while incorporating themes of Malaysian culture and identity in his repertoire.
Book your slot via the KLAF App. The exhibition will be held at PAM Centre, 99L, Jalan Tandok, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.
