Our city has no shortage of destinations peddling the types of confections that people dream about — they might transport you to the best pâtisseries in Paris or whisk you away to a sidewalk café in Florence. These restaurants and cafés craft ambitious sweets to carefully composed desserts, which make them perfect for a thoughtful occasion like Mother’s Day. The Conditional Control Movement Order (CMCO) is still in place and some of us might not be able to celebrate with our mum and mother figures, but they still deserve the very best.
Foo Foo Fine Desserts
An alumnus of Le Cordon Bleu Sydney, pastry chef Foo first carved a name for itself in TTDI when he rolled out crispy profiteroles with salted caramel coffee ice cream and luscious strawberry tarts topped with balsamic vinegar ice cream. Although the café is closed at the moment, the kitchen still aims to satisfy sweet tooth (and the heart of mothers) with gourmet cakes such as the new matcha-glazed baked citrus cheese tart, mascarpone chocolate mousse, pistachio mango peach torte and the dining table showstopper below— strawberry almond dacquoise. All bookings require minimum two days of notice.
Call 03 2389 3155 or message them here to make a reservation. Delivery daily, 1-7pm.
Dew has become known for its clever riffs on classic pastries and desserts, which are more popular at sister outlet Jaslyn Cakes. The dainty desserts at Dew are as much a favourite among neighbourhood residents as they are among food lovers who know to seek them out. For the special occasion this weekend, the bakery-café is accepting orders for whole 6-inch cakes, available in two flavours: Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse with Valrhona Guanaja cremeux (RM145), as well as Lemon & Lavender Mousse (pictured; RM122). Book ahead as pre-orders for collection on May 9 and 10 are still available.
If you’re still sceptical about going out to celebrate Mother’s Day, stay home and have Valen’s Patisserie’s Lavish Afternoon Tea Kit be delivered to you. Dessert and pastry chef Valen Teh’s has prepared an array of treats, including classic scones with a berry jam, yuzu tarts, earl grey macarons and heart-shaped chocolate bon bons, which are available for one to two pax (RM80) and three to four pax (RM160). Teh’s Home Patisserie Series features an assortment of artisan jams and breads — from matcha milk and chocolate hazelnut praline spreads to French croissants and Shokupan loaves — that make great surprise delivery gifts too!
