Shopping malls usually expect a surge of shoppers during the festive season but with the pandemic still raging on, lugging home bags of gifts may seem quite impossible. Therefore, in a bid to recover consumer traffic, shrewd local F&B brands and outlets have resorted to delivery options to bring beautifully packaged goods to your loved ones. Although log cakes and gingerbread cookies are synonymous with Christmas, we've discovered an ecletic assortment of unusual treats from reliable patisseries and restaurants in town instead. Here are just ten of them.
Auri might not be the first store you'd think of when it comes to shopping for Christmas treats, since it specialises more in home decor, body care and clothing. However, this Yuletide season, the lifestyle hub is selling the Helen & Abby Christmas fruit cake (RM180), a moist and rich dessert doused in Hennessy V.S.O.P brandy. If a touch of alcohol is not to your fancy, you can order a version sans the brandy. Delivered in gorgeous red tins, they make for perfect and practical gifts for friends and family.
Four Points by Sheraton, KL
The hotel's Jann Boozy Basket (RM288) is perfect for those who are entertaining guests during the holidays. The hamper is filled with limited edition Yuletide cocktails and specially crafted cognac-infused chocolates by homegrown brand Chocolate Concierge. Additionally, round up your loved ones and toast to the new year with the whiskey and gin minis.
Don't forget the mains too: Quan's Kitchen is offering a roast turkey for takeaway. Brined for 24 hours, the Roasted in Chinatown Turkey Takeaway (RM450 for 5kg) is crusted with Oloiya’s Chicken Bak Kwa, possibly hinting the fact that Chinese New Year is also looming. Completing this succulent feast is an array of side dishes such as truffled potatoes, apple and chestnut stuffing, maple glazed carrots, sautéed broccolini with almond flakes and roasted Brussel sprouts.
Le Méridien, KL
PRIME and Favola are usually booked-out during Christmas eve dinners (of if you're one to plan ahead, New Year's eve dinner too) but the festive goodies from ArtCacao should not be overlooked. It'd be hard-pressed to settle for just a single treat: The illy Coffee with Dried Fruit Shortbread and homemade Christmas cookies in a rectangular decorative tin (RM35) would charm the coffee lover in your life while the Yule logs (RM120) and festive éclairs (RM75 for 5 pieces) would please the kids (or the kids at heart). Cap off your meal with the ultimate crowd-pleaser – the Christmas pudding (RM20 each) with vanilla sauce.
The St Regis, KL

For something more premium, the Luxury Trunk (from RM980) comes with a bottle of Delamotte champagne.
Serving some of the finest French desserts in town, the patisserie's cakes, mousse, tarts and gateaux are not only made from the best ingredients, but they also come with an affordable price tag too. Their Christmas edition cake such as Winter Holidays (RM150) departs from the usual chocolatey goodness and ginger staples that define Christmas desserts. Made from generous amount of pistachio, the cake is complemented by the freshness and tanginess of the raspberry marmalade. If you’re not a fan of pistachios, some pecan flavoured mousse might do the trick. Warm Wishes (RM155) is a pecan caramel chocolate mousse, layered with jelly made from passionfruit, banana and mango, that will have you hankering for more.
