When it comes to creativity, where better to draw inspiration than from the visual arts? Having initiated sought-after collaborations for nearly three decades, august champagne house Dom Pérignon knows a thing or two about meshing luxury with pop culture. In 2005, the maison inaugurated a series of dialogues with the art world, starting with designer Karl Lagerfeld, followed by musicians Lenny Kravitz and Lady Gaga.
Now, the brand has chosen American neo-expressionist trailblazer Jean-Michel Basquiat as the inspiration behind its special edition Vintage 2015. Despite inhabiting different times and fields, both the champagne and painter embody the cultures of their time while continuing to influence the next generation. This artistic coming-together reflects Dom Pérignon’s identity as an expert of savoir-faire, encompassing improvisation, tradition and unpredictability — the core pillars of French excellence.
Across three new bottles, a graphic and conceptual tête-à-tête takes place in the form of hybridised labels in different colourways. The maison’s emblematic shield is superimposed by a three-point crown in the artist’s signature graffiti style, intertwining the stories of both parties. The shield harks back to the village of Hautvillers, the brand’s birthplace, as well as a sense of unwavering ambition.

The crown motif was used by Basquiat to signify power and served as commentary on the dynamics between subjects in his work.
Three coffrets are introduced in this launch, each one picturing a portion of Basquiat’s paintings. Assemble them correctly like puzzle pieces to see the full image. The final look of each box was achieved through a careful study of the components that allows the Dom Pérignon name and crest to be inscribed harmoniously against the colourful backdrop.
To ensure a satisfying unboxing experience, the house’s logo enjoys a more prominent presence on the packaging, complemented by Basquiat’s crown and colours. On the bottle’s insignia, the vibrant and lively camaïeu dominate, hinting at the exceptional tasting that awaits.
