The eighth (and final) season of HBO’s Game of Thrones is only premiering next year. To tide you through another winter, Johnnie Walker has collaborated with the cult TV hit to produce a limited-edition White Walker by Johnnie Walker Blended Scotch Whisky and The Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection. The former is a smart word play we’ve seen in a while and we wonder how this hadn’t happened earlier already.

To evoke the feelings of a wintery world that lies at the north of Westeros for the Whhite Walker collection, Johnnie Walker has blended single malts from Cardhu and Clynelish, the latter being one of Scotland’s most northerly distilleries. The result is a Scotch that carries notes of caramelised sugar and vanilla, fresh red berries and a touch of orchard fruit. Best served chilled, it comes in a 750ml bottle with 41.7% ABV, just slightly more potent than Johnnie Walker’s normal blends.

No points for guessing what inspired the design of the special bottle. An icy white and blue design serves as the backdrop for a revised version of the iconic Striding Man, now fashioned in armour to fit in among the ranks of the Night King’s forces. Here comes the real surprise: A graphic icy of the words “Winter is Here”, through temperature-sensitive thermochromic ink technology, will appear when the bottle is frozen.

The Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection on the other hand features eight scotches that are new to the US, each representing one of the Houses of Westeros and the Night’s Watch. They include House Tully, Stark, Targaryen, Lannister, Greyjoy, Baratheon and Tyrell.

White Walker by Johnnie Walker hits liquor store shelves in the US this month. The rest of the collection rolls out nationwide starting November. A 750ml bottle will retail for US$36 (RM149).
