Let’s go fly a kite! If that thought lifts your spirits, this news will make it soar: Create your own at the Hermès Kite Festival in Kuala Lumpur on May 17 and 18 or fly the maison’s famed carrés (French for squares). Pieces from the brand’s silk collections for men and women — Plumets et Panaches (plumes and crests); Robe Légère (light robe) and Sur Mon Nuage (on my cloud) — will be fashioned into kites using technical fabric for this fun-filled event.
They will dance among the clouds with bandanas, shawls and lozenges. Visitors who wish to keep their feet planted can watch aerial demonstrations by professional kite flyers from designated perches at Sentul Pavilion. Entry (from 10am to 8pm) is free on both days, but those keen on attending the workshop or try their hands at flying the kites have to register at the venue upon arrival.

Hermès’ first-ever kite festival in Indonesia in 2022 saw its silk scarves, originally created in 1937 and prized for “asserting a signature look in a single gesture”, spinning new stories as they took flight. Colourful and versatile – they can be worn as a headscarf or top, at the waist or around the neck to draw the eye to the design, a new colour or detail – this symbol of French chic is poised to blaze a trail of joy through the air.
Pre-register for the festival here.
