Just not too long ago, owning an 8K television is pretty much like getting on 5G. Although the latest innovation in resolution technology sounds impressive — boasting incredible visuals with an even greater wow factor — most TV providers have not gotten around to doing 4K properly, let alone screen 8K programmes. But Samsung Electronic’s point is this: It wants to offer (or at least prepare you for) a screen that will last a long time.

Said technological marvel is Samsung’s latest Neo QLED 8K TV, which was launched during an experiential media showcase at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur yesterday. It is hard to gush over the hallmark stopper with its minimalist and non-intrusive design, which makes everything but the content you are watching fade into the background.

But in this age of multi-tasking, the South Korean brand wants to sell you more than just a high definition box — it aims to enhance your viewing experience, as you would expect from a multiplex, rather than compromise by owning one. This is where the Quantum Matrix Technology and Shape Adaptive Light Control come into play. The former, at 1/40 th the size of a normal LED, flushes out brighter colours and the deepest black to enhance overall clarity for seamless viewing. The AI-backed Shape Adaptive Light Control, on the other hand, precisely maps out objects in the screen and adjusts their lighting to induce deep immersions every time.

Never miss a workout again when you can open multiple windows to manage your career and fitness goals

Whether you are rewatching the aviation acrobats in Tom Cruise’s 1986 Top Gun prior to the Maverick sequel that are topping box office charts across the world, or just revisiting Studio Ghibli’s famous animations on Netflix, the Neo QLED 8K TV is engineered with Dolby Atmos Experience Sound to deliver realistic depth in audio. Planning a movie night? Amp it up with the new Q Series soundbar, now sporting a much leaner outlook packed with 11 speakers, one subwoofer, and four vertical speakers to create an immersive 3D sound field.

Introducing more than just sound and sight to your living space, Neo QLED 8K TV has adapted to our hybrid-working lifestyle by offering more flexibility. It doubles as a smart space for productivity, in which the PC-to-TV feature allows users to remotely connect their computers to work on a bigger screen. The Multi View function enables you to connect multiple devices and display up to four windows simultaneously. In other words, you can follow El and her (not so tiny anymore) friends on their adventure to The Upside Down, without missing your daily yoga routine, all within the same screen. When duty calls, swap one of the windows for work — the TV supports multi-device pairing via Samsung DeX and Microsoft 365 on the Workspace menu after all.

Work hard, but play even harder with the Neo QLED 8K TV. Gamers will be pleased to know that the Game Bar feature, which sits at the bottom of the screen without ever obstructing the game in case they need to adjust screen ratio or position the gameplay, will give players the keys to the cockpit. Performance-wise, the Motion Xcelerator Turbo Pro ensures that on-screen visuals always move smoothly at a constant 144Hz no matter how fast the in-game action gets. Samsung TVs were known to feature AMD FreeSync Premium Pro technology to eradicate screen tears and stuttering framerates, but its newest TVs pushe visual fidelity even further with a Quantum-Dot display screen to handle incredible vibrancy and depth.

Play your favourite games on the biggest screen possible

As much as Samsung sets out to create a television that is future-proofed while contributing to your day-to-day productivity, it is striving to build a greener ecosystem behind the screen. A key game-changer comes in the form of a solar-powered remote, which eliminates the need of batteries by harvesting energy with its back-laced solar panel. Additionally, it can even charge from radio frequencies found in Wi-Fi devices.

At the end of the day, depending on your audio-visual needs, the leap from 4K to 8K viewing may not be exceedingly profound but the Neo QLED 8K TV is a reasonable upgrade that can cope with your gaming, streaming, exercising and even relaxing needs. It is truly, a box of tricks.
