Cartier unveils En Équilibre high jewellery collection in Stockholm

The maison explores the art of balance, where nothing is in excess and every contrast finds harmony.

Every year, the House of Cartier unveils its eagerly anticipated high jewellery collection. Last year, the former seat of the Habsburg Empire — Vienna — was the chosen venue, an obvious choice given its array of sumptuous palaces and regal imperial legacy.

This year, however, Cartier turns to a less obvious destination: a philosophy, a mindset, and a set of values — minimalism, urbanity, nature, and innovation — for the debut of En Équilibre.

Set in Stockholm, Sweden’s capital and largest archipelago, the global media have converged at Nacka Strandsmässan, a former car factory, to admire a collection whose inspiration spans nature, Art Deco, and a Swedish concept of living called lagom. Meaning “just right” or “not too much, not too little,” lagom mirrors the French rien de trop and is infused into every bejewelled creation — expressed through clean lines, a measured colour palette, moderation and perfectly harmonious balance.

From the jaw-dropping Pavocelle (from the Latin pavo for peacock and the French ocelle for the eye motif on a peacock’s tail), with its stunning 58.08-carat cabochon-cut Ceylon sapphire, to Rejilla, a Mozambique ruby necklace that drapes the skin like lace, the world and all its beauty are encapsulated in En Équilibre.

Lagom is also defined as the pleasure of finding perfect balance in everything. It seems Cartier has achieved just that — not more, not less — at the start of summer in Stockholm. En Équilibre is, quite simply, in perfect equilibrium.
