Mandarin Oriental is set to expand its footprint in Malaysia with the upcoming rebranding of a prominent resort and private residences along Johor’s Desaru Coast. The property, formerly operated as One&Only Desaru Coast, officially joined the Mandarin Oriental portfolio this month and will be rebranded as Mandarin Oriental Desaru Coast in January 2026.
The transition follows the cessation of One&Only’s operations on May 1, as confirmed by a notice on the resort’s website.
The move has been welcomed by local authorities as a strategic milestone for the region. Johor Chief Minister Dato’ Onn Hafiz Ghazi hailed the partnership, saying, “Mandarin Oriental has created and defined some of the world’s most renowned properties and destinations across the world, and this, being their choice for their second property in Malaysia, is a testament to Johor’s immense potential."
Set on 128 acres of lush rainforest and opening onto a secluded beach along the South China Sea, the upcoming Mandarin Oriental Desaru Coast offers a tranquil escape in one of Malaysia’s most unspoiled coastal regions. Originally designed by the late Kerry Hill and his award-winning firm Kerry Hill Architects, the resort comprises 44 elegantly appointed suites and villas—each with sweeping views of the sea or rainforest, private gardens, and individual plunge pools.

The culinary offering is equally expansive, with five distinct dining venues serving up a mix of local and international cuisine. Guests can sip cocktails at the beachfront club or savour ocean views over a leisurely meal at the lounge bar.
Wellness is a key focus at the resort. The Spa at Mandarin Oriental will deliver holistic treatments designed to relax and revitalise, while additional facilities include a yoga pavilion, fully equipped fitness centre, and courts for tennis and padel. Golf lovers can tee off at The Els Club Desaru Coast, home to two championship courses crafted by Ernie Els and Vijay Singh.
Adding to its allure, Mandarin Oriental will unveil 40 branded residences, offering buyers the chance to experience the brand’s signature hospitality in an exclusive residential setting.
