Top 10 museums in the world, according to TripAdvisor

If you’re the kind of traveller who needs to clock in a dose of culture no matter where you holiday, don’t miss this list. TripAdvisor recently announced the winners of its 2018 Travelers’ Choice awards for museums.

The 10 winners were determined using an algorithm that considered the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for museums worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period. New York City and Paris emerged tops with two museums each, while Europe is well represented by deserving facilities in London, Athens and Madrid.

Asia made it to the list with the stomach-churning War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City, with Mexico City and New Orleans rounding things up. Art remains a major theme — as expressed by the choices of Musee d’Orsay, Prado, the Met and the Louvre, for example — while exploring the history behind the world’s major wars and disasters are also of major interest, explained by the popularity of New York’s 9/11 museum, Louisiana’s WW2 museum and Ho Chi Minh’s tribute to its own storied war.
