Grand Seiko has always been unparalleled in its way of encapsulating the interweaving of nature, tradition and craftsmanship in its creations. Once again, the watchmaker strikes with the SLGB005, the latest recruit to its Evolution 9 Collection.
The timepiece stands out with its brilliant dial coloured in deep violet, emanating the moment when dawn breaks over the frost-covered forests of the Shinshu region in central Japan, the home to Grand Seiko Spring Drive watches. To the east of the Shinshu Watch Studio lies the Kirigamine Highlands, where crystallised trees can be observed in harsh winter months. This ethereal occurence is captured in the dial’s purple hue that gradually lightens towards the centre, evoking the lands slowly emerging in the morning light. With a diameter of 30mm and thickness of just 5.02mm, it captivates with a silver toned second hand and intricate textures replicating the beauty of ice woods.
Apart from its vibrant colourway, the watch utilises the manufacture’s new Spring Drive Calibre 9RB2, unveiled during Watches and Wonders Geneva in Switzerland earlier this year. The groundbreaking feat received the Ultra Fine Accuracy designation, making it the most accurate wristwatch movement currently powered by a mainspring, boasting an astounding annual rate of +-20 seconds. Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, the movement’s finish is embellished with 34 jewels echoing the stars that sparkle above the mountainous region during the early days of the cold season.
Incredibly corrosion-resistant, the case and bracelet are crafted in Ever-Brilliant Steel, which is classified as “super stainless steel” in the material industry. The limited edition of 1,300 pieces will be available at Grand Seiko Boutiques and selected retail partners worldwide from Nov 1.
