Anyone who owns a timepiece from American watchmaker Jacob & Co knows its works can invariably transform any occasion into a spectacle. Known for being bold and brilliant, the brand launched its first-ever boutique in Singapore earlier this month, in partnership with Sincere Fine Watches. The glitzy new outpost in Takashimaya Shopping Centre was officiated during a grand ribbon-cutting ceremony by company founder and chairman Jacob Arabo; general manager of shopping centre management at Toshin Development Singapore Shuichi Hidaka; as well as Sincere Fine Watches’ CEO Ong Ban and chairman Raymond Lim. The location has a sleek black-and-white façade and gallery-like interior, a sophisticated backdrop for the horologer’s famously flashy and technically impressive oeuvre of creations.

Following the opening events, a glamorous gala hosted at JW Marriott Singapore South Beach kept the celebrations going. On top of a majestic hall framed by scarlet drapery and punctuated by sculptural floral accents, guests were invited to discover a curated collection of Jacob & Co’s most recognisable pieces, each a powerful portrayal of mechanical artistry and gem-setting prowess. Among the key articles shown during the reception were the Bugatti Tourbillon Baguette, which stars a miniature V16 engine block automaton capable of moving on demand, housed within a glittering case paved with 328 baguette-cut diamonds. The enchanting Caviar Tourbillon Rainbow captivated with its 424 seamlessly arranged, multicoloured gems surrounding a flying tourbillon. Reflecting a more organic influence, the Fleurs de Jardin borrows the Astronomia’s engineering to depict an immaculate garden full of life.
Not neglecting its high jewellery universe, the evening was graced by a stunning display of bijoux intended to showcase not only the maison’s deft flair for crafting with light, but also its poetic sensibilities and contemporary expressions of confidence. Other notable moments included an appearance by global stars Thai K-pop sensation BamBam and South Korean actor Lee Byung-hun, in addition to performances by soprano Felicia Teo and piano-guitar duo Churen Li and David Loke.
