Considered one of the finest Chinese restaurants in Malaysia, Elegant Inn at Menara Hap Seng in the heart of Kuala Lumpur has been pleasing palates for close to 17 years now with its refined take on Cantonese and Hong Kong-style favourites. There are star dishes, of course, particularly its lap mei fan (waxed meat claypot rice), lobster noodles or even simple everyday fare like stir-fried bitter melon with salted vegetables. In-the-know regulars, meanwhile, come for its superb steamboat.

However, if you are the sort who needs to take a break from making decisions, two new menus, auspiciously named Bountiful Harvest and Golden Harvest, are available until the end of March, ensuring you and your party go home more than satisfied.

The banquet begins with a trio of appetisers (Hokkaido scallop bacon rolls, smoked duck orange salad or chilled drunken fresh abalone, depending on which menu you select), before segueing into double-boiled or braised soup, and main courses that include its famous Eight Treasures stuffed chicken wing with silky egg, pan-seared scallops and crab roe sauce, a duo of salted egg yolk crystal prawns and Golden Prosperous chicken meat balls or steamed giant dragon tiger garoupa cuts with fresh lemon and Chinese black olives.

Finish as you started, with a selection of three desserts that range from egg tartlets with bird’s nest and nutty sesame balls, to double-boiled fresh pineapple and lily flower with snow fungus.

Prices range between RM2,238++ and RM2,788++ for a table of 10. For reservations, call 03 2070 9399.
