Small eaters (or those mindful of their calorie intake or food wastage) will appreciate the sharing set menu at Thirty8, Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur’s signature eatery with a spectacular view of the city’s skyline. Serving a minimum of four persons, this six-course spread comprises Petuna salmon yee sang as an appetiser, followed by main dishes such as braised fish maw soup, steamed tiger garoupa, slow-cooked stuffed “eight treasure” chicken and wok-fried glutinous rice. From afternoon tea and takeaway deals to elaborate spreads and enticing set menus, Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara has it all, providing guests with endless choices to celebrate the festive season the way they prefer. The Feast of Fortune at Wan Chun Ting restaurant was specially designed by master chef Leong Weng Heng and it incorporates Prosperity, Fortune and Wealth set menus, the Golden Blessings buffet and Hibiscus Afternoon Tea, among others. The Prosperity is an eight-course option boasting family favourites such as braised bird’s nest soup, steamed red snapper fish fillet, wok-fried fragrant rice, chilled yellow orchid flower tea and deep-fried homemade yam nian gao. There is also the Longevity Vegetarian set menu with a lineup of delectable dishes including snow bird’s nest soup, slow-braised Teochew-style winter melon and edamame beans, braised tau kan with fatt choy and truffle paste fried rice. Tao Chinese Cuisine of InterContinental Kuala Lumpur presents a wide range of set menus that serve two to 10 people. Ideal for big companies, the Fortune, Prosperity, Opulent and Longevity (for vegetarians) sets have nine dishes. Each has its own unique selections and is served with traditional dessert nian gao with roasted soy flour. Guests can expect to indulge in dried scallop black truffle broth, wok-fried tiger prawns and steamed red snapper with supreme soy sauce, steamed cod fish fillet and giant river prawns, mixed vegetables and fried rice. For smaller groups, there are Radiance, Renewal and Mystic sets to consider.

The Chow Kit keeps it short and sweet. Instead of building an extensive menu, its culinary team presents only one set — the Prosperity Feast — to commemmorate the celebration. Its five exceptional courses include Golden Prosperity yee sang, dotted with julienned local fruits and vegetables and topped with wild-caught smoked salmon, Crispy Jumbo Prawn and the Abundance Longevity Noodles (yee mee, fresh crab meat and abalone slices). For the main, choose between the Claypot Braised Lamb Loin Rice with black mushrooms and bok choy or the Grouper Fish Fillet with young mango in a soy and vinegar dressing and rice. Wrap up the night on a sweet note with Panna Cotta Lucky Longan.

If you are looking for desserts after filling fare at Yun House or Curate, head over to The Lounge for the Bountiful Blossoms Afternoon Tea. Imagined by executive pastry chef Yann Roumanille, the set offers a symphony of sweet and savoury treats such as classic and flavoured scones served with homemade mandarin orange jam. Other highlights include Red Snake, a clever mix of red velvet génoise with lychee-rose mousse, and Emperor’s Treasure, choux au craquelin filled with black sesame diplomat and raspberry emulsion. The savoury selection has culturally inspired bites like grilled unagi roll and Prosperity Egg (gold-dusted milk bread accompanied by spicy Chinese mustard and coriander seed aioli).

Way Modern Chinois has been serving authentic Chinese recipes with contemporary influences for over a decade. This year, its festive offerings span à la carte and set menus comprising Happiness, Fortune, Harmony, Abundance, Prosperity, Joyful and Blessings, suitable for couples and big groups alike. Some of the restaurant’s specialities are braised seafood soup, Ming prawn with butter egg floss, truffle roast duck and lotus leaf rice with assorted waxed meat. The must-try abalone treasure pot with truffle oil uses over 15 ingredients to create rich flavours and textures. A Golden New Year Cake completes each set.

Diners who want to enjoy other types of cuisine during this time can check out Maria’s SteakCafe as it introduces Western flavours to traditional festive favourites. Although smoked salmon is available, customers can opt for the pulled beef yee sang, prepared using slow-cooked, juicy and tender beef, for something different. Its Abundance Meat set features Argentinian striploin and New Zealand lamb cutlets, while Abundance Seafood boasts grilled salmon and garlic butter prawns. Both come with spaghetti aglio olio and pineapple loaf. For a bigger crowd, the Prosperity Surf and Turf can feed up to 10 people.
