This season, Kwai Chai Hong turns its attention to the celebration’s agrarian roots with Lunar Harvest, an art installation presented in collaboration with Zus Coffee. Set along the iconic Chinatown alley of Lorong Panggung, the installation invites visitors to rediscover the traditions and values associated with the festivity.
Conceptualised by local art studio Donce Fine Floristry, Lunar Harvest gives the alley a vibrant makeover. At its centre is the Harvest Pavilion, a contemporary interpretation of a traditional rice mill framed by colourful lanterns and rice sacks to evoke a rustic autumnal setting. Illuminated rice-sack lanterns in various shapes and sizes add a playful glow to the scene.
The installation draws inspiration from the festival’s origins as a time to give thanks for an abundant harvest and recognise the labour behind it. In an age when food is readily available to many, Lunar Harvest offers a timely reminder of the farmers and workers behind every grain of rice. More broadly, it reflects the values of gratitude, community and togetherness that remain central to the occasion.
The art installation runs until Oct 4, from 9am to midnight.
