The Hour Glass has made its foray into the North of Malaysia by establishing its first retail outlet in George Town, Penang. Located within Gurney Plaza, the new boutique aims to offer watch aficionados the opportunity to enjoy contemporary luxuries amid old-world charm.

The Penang store distinguishes itself by embracing the cues of the coast. Exemplary craftsmanship is employed and evident in the architecture and décor, from the hand-assembled natural stone façade to the undulating timber panels on the ceiling, reminiscent of ocean waves. Sumptuous leather and metal accents jazz up the site while a soft palette and varying textures echo the shimmery beauty of seashells and corals.

“With the success The Hour Glass has enjoyed in Malaysia, it was only a matter of time before we explored what Penang has to offer,” said group managing director Michael Tay in an announcement. “The island truly is a confluence of heritage, tradition and cutting-edge innovation which resembles the very spirit of the haute horologerie universe. The Hour Glass Gurney Plaza will allow us to bring some of our best brands and horological experiences to the sophisticated audience in Penang.”

Individual display areas have been carved out to showcase the latest novelties from the retailer’s array of luxury brands, including Breitling, Girard-Perregaux, Grand Seiko, Hublot, Nomos, Sinn-Spezialuhren, TAG Heuer, Tudor, and Ulysse Nardin.
